Artist Statement
My work is a negotiation between the enduring and the fragile, exploring the human condition through the language of form and material. Working primarily in marble and wax, I embrace the slowness of these mediums, allowing each piece to evolve organically as I respond to the natural imperfections and veining within the stone. This process mirrors my own experience of transformation—breaking open rigid constructs of belief to reveal vulnerability and resilience beneath.
The figures I create inhabit a space between the sacred and the human, informed by religious imagery but unbound by its dogma. These forms wrestle with the tension of faith and doubt, reflecting the complexities of my personal history. Having grown up steeped in patriarchal and proselytizing systems, my work seeks to reconcile these teachings with the truths I uncovered after leaving them behind.
I see my sculptures as fragments—of time, of memory, and of self. They are not meant to resolve but to provoke, offering a moment of stillness amidst shifting headwinds. They stand as quiet witnesses to the transformation inherent in being alive, where every crack, chisel mark, and broken edge carries the weight and the beauty of imperfection.
